Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me in High School

I mentioned this little project a few weeks ago. I dreamed about it and woke up long enough to do a quick outline.
The school I'm working with is the "trade school". The students who attend Walker County Center of Technology are usually not the popular kids -- they're not cheerleaders, football players, or scholars.  These kids, for the most part, are the invisible ones. They are the ones that get pushed around by the more popular students.
But if I were in high school right now, these kids would be my friends. I feel connected to them.
I decided to do a little movie to encourage them, and this is the first draft. I'm sure you all probably have things that you could add.

  3. I think you did an amazing job. My heart goes out to those who don't fit in or have trouble in high school. My grandsons were like that. They both had trouble with reading even though they got help. They both left school in Middle School.

  4. Please please don't take this the wrong way but I really didn't like the "Pretty people don't always stay that way" superimposing a young woman and then an older woman - the implication being the older woman is somehow "not pretty". The older woman had experience and maturity etched in her beautiful beautiful face - the implication was somehow she was "ugly". No, she's the most beautiful face in this montage. Sorry, I just thought it unfair that this older woman's face was used in a very negative way especially for your young people to see.

Ok, off I go and hide now! LOL! Take care

This was fantastic Rick but I have to agree with Old Kitty.. Basically you are telling these young people flat out that THEY are not pretty but don't worry about it. Maybe I'm not picking up on it correctly but I do think Old Kitty is scratching on the right post there. Otherwise, what a fantastic idea, well executed and I'm sure it is going to be very helpful to a lot of young folks.

  6. Thanks all.
Also I appreciate Kitty and Delores' feedback. Your point is well taken. I deleted the "Pretty People" section.
In my talks with the kids, many of them said that they'd taken abuse from the "pretty people" and it was my intention to say to the kids that those people won't always have that power.
But when I looked at the film after reading your feedback, I realized I'd missed the mark so I changed it and reposted.
    Thanks a bunch you guys.

  7. This is totally inappropriate for your movie, but I wish someone had told me to go ahead and have lots of sex and enjoy it. Little did I know I wouldn't get any later on.

  9. Loved the video! My brother barely made it through high school...he went to work for the phone co. right after graduation...then Vietnam came and he went..luckily he came home and back to the phone co...then he took all he learned and started his own company and is a very successful business man and a wonderful husband, dad, brother and community supporter...he would probably have been voted "least likely to succeed" since he wasn't a college bound young person..but he had many of the qualities you stated in the video. I hope you can touch the young people you are trying to help. Good job!

  10. I think it's a shame that people often feel the need to change or hide the most interesting things about themselves so they fit in with everyone else.
