Gardenias ~ One of Life's Little Pleasures

The gardenias started blooming this week. We smelled the scent of our first blossom before we saw it. I've come to understand that gardenias are one of life's little pleasures.
This morning our walk started earlier than normal because the weatherman said the temps would be much hotter today.
As we walked by the Mother Gardenia, Jilda snapped off a few fragrant blossoms and sniffed them as we walked.
I had some chores outside so I didn't go straight inside after our walk. Later when I went into my bathroom to wash my hands for breakfast, Jilda had put a gardenia blossom in a thin-necked vase on my vanity. The blossom looked as if it had been carved from a piece of bone by a razor-sharp chisel. The aroma was as thick as lust.
Some might think I have lace on my boxers, but I love fresh flowers in the house. We can be as broke as the Ten Commandments with not enough money to pay attention, but put a vase of fresh flowers on the table and I feel wealthy.

  1. Flowers always brighten your day and gardenias are very special flowers.
How nice of Jilda to put some for you on your vanity.
I hope you gave her a big hug for that. :)

  2. How lovely! I have had Gardenia plants, but have never been able to keep them alive. You must have a very green thumb. I just LOVE the flowers and wonderful aroma.

    1. Hey Lois, they thrive here. If I keep water in this vase, it will sprout roots in a few weeks. We just put the twig in a pot and this fall we'll have another bush.

  5. Gardenias are one of life's greatest pleasures - as is night blooming jasmine. A house with fresh flowers feels very decadent indeed - such a bounty! The other thing that makes me feel rich is a full refrigerator just after grocery shopping.

    1. We have jasmine but it's not night blooming. I'd like to learn more about that.

  7. Gardenias are my next favorite flowers next to pansies! I go into a swoon over the scent of gardenias and magnolias. We have confederate jasmine blooming on our fence and the mock orange just finished. I love to have something fragrant blooming as much as I can. The lilacs are done so it's a race between the gardenias and magnolias!
I love your text today...'not enough money to pay attention', I really got a quick out of that.
    Hugs~

  9. You are lucky to have gardenias growing in the ground there in Alabama. I tried to overwinter 3 large pots in the house this year and only one of them survived. But in early May when it bloomed for several weeks it was wonderful and worth all the trouble. My father always bought me a gardenia corsage when I was growing up. Back in those days dads did that for daughters for Easter and Valentine's Day and piano recitals so the scent of gardenias is a happy one for me.

Here's to men with lace on their boxers! And to wives who put a vase of flowers where their husbands can enjoy it!

  10. You don't strike me as the lace wearing type, but I think you're a more sensitive and open than a lot of men.

    Love,

  11. The peonies by my house are in full bloom and I've just discovered a love for them. Gardenias are just as beautiful. Also.. lace in the boxers can't be that bad right? Just a little itchy.

    1. Our peonies aren't doing well. I need to figure out what we're doing wrong because the are beautiful too.
