Dreaming of birds

I dreamed of birds last night. It's hard to imagine what a psychiatrist would make of that, and I'm not sure what brought it on.

Perhaps, it was because yesterday I saw small birds pecking at the edges of the birdbath and the vessel we use to provide water for our feathery friends.

But the dream sent my mind careening down a path it has not traveled in some time. I remembered the day I arrived in the Panama Canal.

It was fall of 1972.  When I stepped off the plane, it was soo hot. I thought: "Wow, I need to get off of this runway and out of this jet-wash."

As it turns out, it wasn't jet-wash, but just a normal Panamanian day. It was like that for 18 months.

As I walked in through the front gates at Fort Clayton, there were palm trees lining the entrance. It was late afternoon and I heard a high-pitched drone that I couldn't identify.

When I looked up into the palms, I realized that it was thousands of parakeets and other tropical birds doing an evening chant. OK, it probably wasn't a chant, but I don't know how else to describe it.

So that's my sad story for February 19, 2015.

Do you ever dream of birds?

  1. I do not think I have ever dreamed of birds. I've probably dreamed about most everything else.

  2. You probably can find out the meaning of your dream by analysing what has been on your mind lately and how you felt about the birds. Dreams are a window of our unconscious mind. You can also find some information online about analysing your dreams.

I once dreamt that I could fly and hover close to the ground and fly up over the ocean and swoop down with ease. It was the most exhilarating dream ever. I felt total freedom.

I hope you can find out the meaning of your dream.
    Good luck.

  3. I mighta dreamed of a Buzzard! (smile) Strange, military life that is, I had about the same feeling when I arrived in GITMO, but you said it much better, and I did not see the tropicla birds, but was sure impressed with the three foot lizards (LOL). Good one, dream on!

  4. We had a pair of Finches that some one let go off by opening their cage when we had them on our deck. They were tropical and not used to New York whether and I was worried for them and had them in my dreams for several months.

  5. Sounds like a vivid memory, Rick. I loved the way you described that humid Panamanian air. I have a deep love for birds, but I don't recall dreaming of them. Maybe that will change someday.

  7. Hey, I would have to ask what kind of birds were they? Birds can represent good and evil!
But I know Jesus knows and cares about every sparrow!

  8. Growing up we always had birds as pets. Parakeets, canaries, and even a really fun Myna bird named Charlie, and a chicken named Hilda! I never dreamed of them or any or any other fowls though. Thanks for sharing your military memories. It's interesting how vivid some events in our lives remain. My brothers say they will never forget the first memories of Vietnam. Besides the heat, it was the smells when they got off the plane.

  9. Enjoyed hearing about your memory. At present I don't remember dreaming of birds, but I have had my share of very strange dreams--maybe it's best we just don't tell any psychiatrists about them!
