Cruising

I got a special offer from the cruise line today. It's been well over a year since our first and last cruise, but they are a persistent lot.

Upon return, I was adamant that I would not be cruising again. But I find myself flipping  back through the pictures from time to time. The music, laughter, the scenery, and the sea are anestled in a part of my brain that remembers.

I forget that I felt a little caged during the days onboard...the constant rock of the sea against the stern and bow. I forget that I had no Internet connection for almost a week which meant that I had to write all my blog entries before I left and schedule them to post each day until I returned.

But upon reflection, I feel that a few more sunsets at sea where the only obstruction is low-lying clouds near the horizon might do me good. The more I read about relaxing this day and time talk of disconnecting from the tether in my pocket.

Who knows what the future might bring.

  2. We have been on 3 cruises (together). Loved them all. I did upgrade to the balcony, chose the 'obscured' view first, and was very happy with it. The balcony was good and the view was only slightly obscured.

You are right, they are persistent. It was nice to be aboard and not working. As a sailor made a few cruises w/o Sherry, but never again.
    Go ahead, CRUISE.
WE have one planned this coming DEC.

  3. I couldn't not comment, Rick! Thanks to my dad's wunderlust, I've enjoyed cruising since '57. Unfortunately, the industry isn't what it used to be; and the various companies' product as different as say, Red Roof Inn v. a Four Seasons. Watch their demographics carefully ... then LET GO! :)

  5. I've never been on a cruise and have no desire to be on one. I kind of like to have my feet firmly on the ground with an ocean view of the gorgeous sunrise and sunset. Hearing the waves crashing on the shore and looking at the seagulls flying and smelling the salty air, eating seafood. That's my kind of cruise.

So I can't give you any encouragement but it would be better than roasting in the hot sun.

  7. Upon first seeing your post title, I thought it said "Cursing". Oh well.

We have gone on cruises with our family, and occasionally think about going on another. But haven't yet. Your cruise sounds like exactly what you and Jilda needed to do.

  8. Sometimes unplugging from the rest of the world can be beneficial. There are times that I feel we are too connected. If you decide to go have a good time and enjoy the disconnect. If not then you still have memories of your first and only cruise.

  9. My wife is itching for another cruise. She likes unpacking for an entire trip instead of living out of a suitcase.

  10. You know what Lou Holtz says about cruising. It is like being in jail, with the added bonus of the potential for drowning. Yep. That about says it. Thus, I have avoided it as long as I could, but we are doing our first one this fall to Alaska. If you never hear from me again, well ... you know what happened.
