The times

It seems the leaves started changing. Some unseen signal from Mother Nature and the trees and shrubs began a slow transition into autumn. I know autumn is more than a month away, but tell that to the sumac, poison ivy, and hickory.

At first glance, they looked like thirsty leaves longing for a taste of rain, but then it rained most of the day today and the color this evening is even more pronounced.

Before long, the heat of summer will be a memory and the aroma of woodsmoke along, that tastes of the harvest, along with the kaleidoscope of fall color will dominate the conversation.

As the Dylan song goes, The Times They Are A Changin.

  1. I love the fall now that I don't have to rake leaves.

  4. I was noticing some color on our trees in NC, I guess the drought is assisting.

  5. It's true, even though no leaves have started to change here, you can see a difference. I'm trying not to think about it at all. But the reminders are there.

  6. It's early for trees to change color... I love fall colors but I'm in no rush either. Here it has rained often but the ground is still powder dry. We're having some strange weather.
In Glasgow Scotland, the weather has been much cooler than usual. It's been cold and nights in single digits.

  8. I don't think we have Fall here in San Diego. We have Summer and then it slips into a mild Winter, and back again.
The leaves turn a crispy brown then.

  9. My Dogwood trees have some red leaves on them...I think it's a bit early for that! I'm still in the summer mode but I do love fall. The kiddos in Ashland go back to school after Labor Day this year because they wanted the new schools to be completed. That will make a longer Summer for them and the teachers. The county schools will be back in session by the 24th.Times aren't only changing..they are flying!

  11. We have had beautiful days here. This week it has been hot but not humid where one melts in 2.5 seconds. I hate poison ivy (all of them actually) because years ago I was covered head to toe in poison ivy. My whole body was swelled up and my eye swelled shut. I was one big red and purple rash. I had to go to the hospital and be given adrenalin since I couldn't breathe the best. Ick!
