Call of the Wild

I'm reading Call of the Wild by Jack London. I read the book when I was very young but couldn't remember much about it. I did recall that I loved the book, so when I saw it discounted I picked up a copy.

Now I'm reading the book through the eyes of an aspiring writer. I find it interesting how writers I've admired through the years, told their stories with language, style, and words that brought it to life.

If I'd realized when I was younger that I wanted to be a writer, I would have paid better attention as I read years ago. But the vision looking back is always much clearer than looking forward.

I worked until dark today and didn't have an opportunity to snap a photo of the day so used an old photo of my trusted companion Caillou. I have a feeling Caillou and Buck from Call of the Wild would have been great friends.

  1. Didn't Buck come from a ranch in the Santa Clara Valley? I seem to remember this because I grew up in Santa Clara.

  2. Cailllou looks like Lassie searching for Timmy. I often notice how an author uses words to pull me into the story. When I become a part of the book I know the writer has done the job.

  4. It is very interesting to read something over again after several years have past. The experiences we've gained often give us a new slant on an old story. The classics like The Call of the Wild never grow old. Your faithful friend takes a wonderful picture !

  5. One of the best books I have ever read! I don't recall reading it in my youth, I read it around 2009.

  6. Oh how lots of us seniors wished we had paid more attention to books when we were younger
    .
I remember I got a book on Black Beauty in 3 rd grade and hated books so traded another little girl out of her dish drainer and little box of soap for my book LOL This was a Christmas party exchange back when God and Christmas was in our schools, 1950's

  7. Such an appropriate picture. Oh YES, we can find something to kick ourselves about, mine was not realizing the importance of the 'rules' of the English Language. I just wanted a passing grade.
Anyway methinks you are a 'natural' in descriptive language... But I am sure a lot of work went into it.

I bet that Caillou would have paid attention to the book.
    Enjoy your book.

  9. Call of the Wild is one of my favourite books. I must have read it 5 times when I was a kid and I re-read it about 2 years ago. I still find it one of my favourites
