On guard

The college observed the New Year's holiday today but I had some training I needed to do. Rather than try and do the training during office hours, I decided to do it from the comfort of my couch today.

It was a good day for it because rain moved in just after midnight and waves showers washed over Empire all night long. Today, it warmed up and we had one soaking shower after the other all day long. The rhythm of the rain sounded like music on the metal roof.

Ol' Hook normally spends most of his time outside protecting the masses from killer squirrels and chipmunks but he's not fan of the rain so he hunkered down by the garden door and stood watch from there.

Our other two dogs get hysterical when thunder rolls, but Ol' Hook who is deaf, doesn't get what all the excitement's about.

A few more days like today and our water tables should be replenished. I glanced at Facebook to which a few folks happy birthday, and I saw some entries where people were whining about the rain.

After four months of drought, you will never hear me complain about the rain.

  1. What a sweet pic of Ol' Hook! He's so lucky to find his forever home with you guys this year. I too don't whine about rain. It's a farming community here and I know it's so dependent on the weather. I was home today too but spent all day cleaning and taking down the decorations. I logged well over my 10,000 steps and had 31 flights of stairs! I need to get back to work for some rest! Have a good week Rick!

  2. We have ice and snow which is not usual for our area most years. Last winter similar was about 20 years ago. Walking with great care, driving only when absolutely necessary and getting stuff done inside. Did I wish you Happy 2017 New Year - saying in twice maybe, Happy 2017 New Year. Glad you can eat solids again.

  3. I have lived through a few droughts now, and no, will never complain about rain. And is the smell of rain-washed air wonderful?

  4. Rain is good, but sometimes too much of a good thing is a problem.

  5. We have had a lot of rain the past couple days. I love it. We needed it so bad.
I like the saying, "people who do not like the rain, have never danced in it". Thats true.
That is a frame worthy photo of Hook!! Good job.

  7. Rain is good and we have some here today. I'm thinking it is better than snow. Glad you got another day at home and have such faithful companions there to guard your door.

  8. I'm glad you got your rain. Rain in good measure is really good.... We have lots of snow but you don't want that do you? An extra day of rest is good, even Ol'Hook thinks so.

  9. Love to read of 'Ol Hook.
Mark and Janie (our deaf Grand dog)had breakfast with us. I pointed out the picture, Mark smiled big. Yeah it is nice walking a deaf dog in town, she doesn't hear the other dogs bark as we walk by, just plods on.

  10. I'm glad you got some rain! I know you needed it and that is a good way to start 2017. I love your doggie looking out thinking to himself..."No way an I going out there." Animals are smart:)

  11. Now I am going to confess. I prefer winter to summer because the heat bothers me. But I will complain about the cold even so. I think we simply need to have something to complain about.
