Ragweed

Our great nephew Jordan was feeling puny today. The ragweed here is brutal right now. A few weeks without rain has encouraged the invasive weed. The flowers of ragweed resemble the dandelion flowers that have gone to seed. I think these are called rosettes.  These are the white cloud that people pick and blow into the wind.

Ragweed, on the other hand, are a little more gnarly are blowing them in the wind is not as inviting.

For years, goldenrod was blamed for allergies this time of year. I'm sure there are some people who are allergic to goldenrod, I doubt this beautiful plant as hard on the sinus cavities as ragweed.

When I walked over this evening to take Jordan a jar of Jilda's world-famous lemonade and an oatmeal raisin cooky, I saw a bumble bee feeding on the goldenrod pollen.

I hope your autumn is without ragweed.

  1. No ragweed, but I could use an oatmeal raisin cookie.

  2. I think those goldenrods are beautiful in a flower bouquet. Ragweeds looks totally different and my husband has allergies to ragweeds. I still see pictures on the web that are goldenrods and labeled as ragweeds. I guess we can't believe everything we read on Google. I hope Joradn is feeling better.

  4. I never learned weeds or flora of any kind. I don't know why, just didn't. However I could cross my fingers as a kid and an adult, I never had anything effect me in the way of allergies. I wasn't even allergic to poison oak or ivy. BUT but here in my later adult years Mr. Allergy has found me, I hid for many years, but, but.......... Not now..
But as always a very good picture .

  7. Of the ten most common allergens I am not allergic to dog and cat fur. The others? Oh yes. I am grateful we don't have ragweed and love the care package you took to Jordan.

  9. It seems these golden flowers bloom about the same time are often mistaken one for the other. I think it's the ragweed that does the most damage as far as allergies go. Certainly hope some lemonade and cookies helped make him feel better.

  11. Maybe ragweed is the reason Favorite Young Man and I have such terrible allergies at present. I feel puny, too.

  12. Oh my goodness! I took a picture of ragweed today and didn't even realize that's what it is. It is behind our back fence and on our neighbor's fence. No wonder I'm sneezing.
