  1. Rick, you've given me a bunch of action items - books I haven't read, music I haven't heard and movies I haven't seen. This will make the next few years flash by.

  2. Hey Grandpappy, I know what you mean. There are so many good books, songs and movies and so little time. I commute to work an hour each way right now and I listen to books on tape from Audible. I have over 200 books in my electronic library now.
1776 was one of my favorites and it made the history come alive.

  3. Next time you are sitting at the keyboard and inspiration is elusive tell us about 1776. The story, what you liked about it(or didn't) and the characters. I'm not familiar with this book and would like to know more...

  4. Hey there Ms. Soup. Are you back in Australia?
1776 is about the first year of the American Revolution. It is taken largely from the letters written by George Washington, John Adams, and their contemporaries. It details their struggles during that time pointed out to me that if the weather and a few other factors had not been in our favor, we could still be paying tax to the crown.

  5. Another excellent book about the early days of America is "John Adams" by David McCullough. Also "The First Salute" by Barbara Tuchman.

  6. I did read John Adams. I'm blown away by all of McCullough's work. I also read the An American Life (Ben Franklin) by Walter Isaacson. I purchased and downloaded Shelby Foote's The Civil War but it is too painful for me to listen to. The horror's of that war, which was fought here are beyond my realm of thought.
