It Is What It Is

We'd stayed up way past our bedtime talking and laughing with our out-of-town friends last night. It's been too long since we've spent time with them.
No one wanted to say goodnight. When we were younger, the hands of the clock would not have told us when to turn in, and we all could have stayed up until it was time to feed the chickens. Someone would have pointed out "we can sleep when we're dead!" And with a few hours sleep, we'd been up ready for round two. But sadly those days are now behind us, and when one of us started nodding out, we turned in.
Sometime before dawn, I could hear rain playing the roof like a Trinidad drum. I slipped out of bed and stepped to the back deck for a first hand weather report.
It seems like months since we've had a decent rain, so I stepped out on the deck, looked up into the night sky, and let the cool rain sprinkle my face.
This has been a difficult summer for many parts of the county. My blog buddy Ellen who lives near Houston, Texas  has dealt with drought conditions for months.
If I'd taken a picture of our walking path, it would have looked like the earth surrounding Somalia. The oak trees have deep roots and are rarely affected by dry weather, but even the hundred year old trees looked thirsty this year. So the rain off of tropical storm Lee, was welcome. Hopefully we won't have the 8 inches of rain that some doomsday weather people have predicted, but we'll take whatever Mother Nature has to offer. In my way of thinking, it is what it is.
Have a great week.

  2. Yes, having friends visit is fun, isn't it. We visited with friends on our way home from Kentucky last weekend. We didn't stay very long - only for a long lunch - but it was such fun to visit when none of us had to run off to work or school or to pick up someone else....

We finally got a little rain last night, too, up here in Cincinnati. We had beautiful weather for the past couple of weeks except the plants were all dried out. Our lack of rain was nothing compared to Texas, though. I would have shared some of ours if I could have.

Glad to hear you got some rain, too. :)

  3. Glad you had a good visit with your friends.

The last time we tried to talk all night .... we didn't....and neither of us could remember half of what we did talk about the next morning. :)

'Course, maybe that was a good thing, because who knows what it was when it was.

Glad you caught some rain at last.

  8. It must have felt so good to feel the rain on your face, after so long without any. Wish you would take some of ours away! LOL!. The time spent with your friends sounds wonderful, but I know what you mean about not being able to stand the pace quite so much anymore!!

  9. We got our fill on rain with Hurricane Irene. Glad you're getting yours. Poor Texas. It's awful. But I also use the expression "It is what it is". There's not much we can do about Mother Nature.

  11. Not only are we having the driest and hottest year ever, fires popped up all weekend. One friend lost everything but horses and family are safe. Another friend thinks her house is OK while neighbors houses and the forest across from her burned. Haven't heard for sure about her house. It's scary around here.

  12. I do love a summer rain. Hopefully it won't be torrential and devastating, but a steady summer rain just makes the air smell good.
I can't stay up all night either. A good night's sleep is a necessity for me these days. Your weekend sounds like it's been wonderful.
