Phenonomenon

I wrote in my journal this evening. I'm debriefing myself on the book signing I did on Friday...what I did right, what I could have done better, what I want to be sure and do next time.
I learned that most of my readers fall into the "non-pajamanational" crowd (those who don't wear pajamas to Walmart). I'm not sure what it will take to reach that crowd.
Speaking of pajamas, has anyone else noticed this trend at the local big-box stores? I see it all the time. Men and women come to Walmart (it's the only big-box store we have around here), at all hours of the day and night in the pajamas.
Jilda wears high heels to the post office (not really, you will never see her without makeup). If I leave the farm, you can bet I've had a shower, shave, and I'm wearing clean clothes, and not something I've slept in.
Apparently this is not just a local phenomenon because when I Googled it there were pages. One town in Louisiana that is in the process of passing a law against it.
I'm not offended, I'm just befuddled.
"Hey hon, I've got to run to Walmart to get some eggs for breakfast. The biscuits are in the oven so I don't have time to change into my clothes. I'll be back in 10."

  1. Ah, Rick. I am right there with you - befuddled - with this whole "schlepping around" in stuff that looks like they just rolled out of bed (or off the couch) in it.

Of course, I don't get the whole "Black Friday madness mess" either.
Oh, and FYI - really embarrassing movie I saw, that you asked which one it was - it was Flight with Denzel Washington. Talk about eye-opening (or in my case eye "closing".) :) Have a good evening.

  2. Hahaha! Ok, I'm not the only one who hates the pj look! I've blogged about it before too. I'm in the "never leave home without makeup" group. I was on call this weekend and got a short notice surgery call on Sat. morning..but by jingy I made sure I had on my eye makeup before leaving! (it was not "life or death" BTW...) Maybe I'll get the guts up to snap a pic or two for the blog one of these days...seriously, anyone who could care less how they look probably wouldn't mind.

  3. I don't remember the last time I was in a Wal-Mart (Wal-Mart is Satan) so I haven't seen shoppers in their jammies, but I have seen young people go out to breakfast in their jam jams. I usually leave the house in a skirt and heels, even if I'm just picking up prescriptions at the drug store. I'm always prepared in case Johnny Depp turns up.

    Love,
    Janie

  4. I may be one of those they take pictures of at Wal Mart.

I needed paint badly. I ran to the local store in normal clothes but on my feet were purple socks and lime green flip-flops. They close at noon on Saturdays.

Shockingly they took my money without one word about my scarily clad feet.

  5. I think one of the big shops here have banned people coming to shop in their pyjamas! I for one say - yay!! I find it appalling how some people seem to treat public places as the extension of their bathroom! Effort, people! Effort!! take care
