Friday

Jilda had an appointment to get her hair cut early this morning. I'd planned to go fishing, but there were several things I needed to do and by the time I finished it was too late to head to the water.

Taking the dogs for a long walk before the day heated up felt like a good idea so we headed out. At one point along the path, the sun was dappling through the trees and alighted the leaves on this tree. Some of the foliage had already turned brown, but some were holding on hoping for rain. The contrast looked good through the lens so I snapped a few frames.

Just then I heard a gunshot off in the distance and for our collie Caillou, the walking was over. He hates gunshots and any holidays that involve fireworks.

I had almost half the steps toward my daily goal so I opened the back gate and herded the dogs in. Hook who is deaf is unaffected by gunplay and seemed a little disappointed the walk was ending but I sat on the garden bench and played fetch the rope with him and he was happy.

Tomorrow we play at an arts festival south of Birmingham. Our friend Fred is riding down with us to work the sound.

I hope you all have a remarkable weekend.

  1. I dislike the hunting season. I never feel completely safe. Some hunters are so anxious to bag a deer that they shoot at anything that moves.

  4. I hope the gig is a fun one.
The only time I can appreciate Janie's deafness is when we are walking her and unseen dogs bark, it does not effect here. ;-). Fishing? Gotta do it soon, we have a huge lake nearby!

  7. I would be nervous hearing a Gun shot. I grew up in the country and we owned ten acres with an evergreen bush on it. I was outside and I saw, in the distance, a man with a rifle on our land. The next thing I saw was him pulling the trigger towards me and I heard a swwwiiiisshhhh sound right by my left ear. I knew I was lucky because that was a bullet! He saw me then and I ran and told my dad who hightailed it out there but the man was already gone. I am like your one dog and would be hurrying back for sure
