Don't be fooled

On our morning walk, I glanced over at the blueberries. "Oh no," I thought. "Don't be fooled by the sunshine on your faces little blueberries, learn from the persimmon and the kudzu. Be smart. Wait."

But no. The blueberries observe the buttercups, babies breath, and the yellow bells. They rush into bloom thinking – I'm late. I'm late. Sitting on the backyard bench with my face turned to the morning sun it's easy to understand how the blueberries could be fooled.

Alas, we have not seen the last of the cold weather this winter. I'm hoping the blueberries can survive.

  1. Such a crazy weather pattern! Our blueberries aren't in bloom, or anything else for that matter, but as I watch the snow fall tonight I saw the forecast say 60de on Sat and Sunday! Really? I'm fooled too!

  2. Blueberries can handle quite low temperatures and still have a good crop. They will probably do fine.

  6. We have had some warmer days here too making the tips of daffodils push up through the ground but this morning it is below freezing and snow is falling. Hope your blue berries survive!

  7. That's exactly what I've been saying. Maybe Mother Nature will make liars of both of us but I doubt it.

  8. The weather is nuts! Today it is -6C, cold but sunny which i like and i feel really good today but by Saturday and Sunday we are to have +10 or +12C which is too warm for this time of year. I shall say a little prayer to the blueberries and all the plants...they need it

  10. Here, we have had torrential rains, refilling our reservoirs 180% over past drought. Then it was 79 deg. yesterday. Go figure.

  12. When DIL down in Pike Road used her birthday $ to buy blueberry bushes last year, I had no idea what they'd look like. Thanks for (again) educating this city girl. Not at all what I'd have expected!
