Ringer

I took Jilda to work this evening and then headed to buy me a Christmas hat. The newspaper volunteers each year to ring the Salvation Army bell. I took the 10 a.m. shift and I realized this afternoon that I was hatless. My great nephew Jordan absconded with my old hat a few years back.

I could call and ask for it back but that would have been a waste of time.

So after dropping Jilda off at work, I headed to a nearby town. I found a hat at Dollar Tree. It fit, but it had reindeer antlers on it. There was a Hobby Lobby next door and they had one that was just right.
There's a Starbucks across the parking lot and I had about an hour to kill, so I bought a coffee and did some pre-Christmas people watching. Watching people is fun. I like making up life stories of the people I see.

I'll do a selfie tomorrow of me doing my ringing thang. Until then, I'll post a picture of some foliage that I took today down by the barn.

  2. How nice that you volunteer for such a good cause. I'll look forward to that pic! Today I was going into the post office when a gentleman came out and I swear he was a dead "ringer" for you! I looked a bit startled I guess because he looked at me strange, put his head down and mumbled a quick hello. I almost started laughing but then I was afraid I would really creep him out! Ha! Wait, you weren't in Ashland were you?

  3. Okay the title was not what I expected, LOL. But that is a very good thing. The 'ringers' signify the Christmas season. Good foliage shot!

  4. Yeah for the Salvation Army which my dad always gave to. When he was wounded in WW2, he was recuperating in a Belgium hospital and people from the Red Cross came but were going to charge him to write a letter to his dad, charge for a shave and a blanket. He told them Where to go. Later the Salvation Army came and did this all for free. My dad in law had the same experience in the same area. Anyway, love that you got a hat and love the picture

  5. I'm glad you found a hat to wear while you ring that bell. I'm always so very thankful for the Salvation Army and my husband and I give generously back to them because we will always remember that they helped us.

During the devastating flood of April 1973 the Salvation Army came to bring hot coffee and sandwiches to the men who work all through the night in deep cold water to save our cattle. We had a large herd then and this was the first time we had to move cattle during a flood.

Go ring that bell and I hope your new hat and your good look will encourage people to be generous.

P.S., Thanks for your comment on my blog. Not too many followers are courageous enough to leave a comment on religious theme.
    Hugs, Julia

  6. A hat is a necessity when you're going to be outside in the cold, so glad you got yours! Nice of you to take the time to do some bell ringing too. I heard that it used to be done here with only volunteers, but in some cases now they have to hire them.
