National Shelfie Day

Today is National Shelfie Day. The idea is to promote reading. People are encouraged to take a picture of some of the books on their bookshelf.

I pulled several that I've read in the past year or so. I haven't read the Salman Rushdie book, and I'm only about halfway through the Beekeeper's bible, but the rest I've read.

The picture on the upper left is a pencil drawing that Jilda did of our niece Samantha when she was just a tike. The picture to the left is of her mom and dad, but the candle is blocking her dad.

The small picture is of great-nieces and nephews. The on the right is now old enough to drive.

I hope today has been a good one for you.

  1. Jilda has many talents!

I don't that much, except for when on a trip. No picture, visualize a Kindle, all my current reads are on that.

  2. Jilda is indeed multi-talented.
I read. Each and every day.
I will admit to finding Salman Rushdie hard going though. It took multiple attempts before I finished Midnight's Children and I doubt I will read it again.

  3. Wow Jilda did a good job on that drawing. I like your book choices and look quite lovely where they sit.

  4. I've not read any of those books even though I'm familiar with some of the authors. As Joeh says, Kindle puts paid to the concept of a bookshelf today.
National Shelfie Day. It's just a word slide away from 'selfie'
    Spare me!

  5. Since I now read only my Kindle I'm afraid that my books would not look impressive. I noticed the other day that I have more than 200 books either read or waiting to be read.

  6. I love to read. I can remember seeing private libraries and saying to myself, those are for looks to impress, NO ONE reads that much. It took me until I was in my late 50s to learn different and I fell in love with reading. Since then I have read thousands. lately I have become lazy and have read 80 westerns in the last two months. Those were on kindle. I prefer a book in hand, it is easier to reach back to check a fact or a name. Kindle is about impossible to do that for me, so that makes kindle okay for westerns.
I said when I saw the picture, comments this morning are gonna be JILDA and her talents. That lady IS an ARTIST.
    Course you 'KNOWED' that. ;-)

  7. I have lots of shelves filled with books. I'm always thinking I'll read them again. And sometimes I have, but mostly they sit there collecting dust. Now I have a kindle that stores my books and I love the fact that I don't have to dust them off.

  8. Dear Rick, I have many books here on my bookshelves that I haven't read. I keep thinking I will at some point, but somehow that point never comes! So much to read and absorb to enjoy and learn. Your stack of books is an interesting one and I was glad to see that you had a book of Frost's poetry. He remains a favorite of mine. Thanks for telling us about the drawing and the photos. Peace.
