I posted a link to a video this morning about Angel Flight. It's a country song about the aviators who fly fallen soldiers home.
I grew up on country music, but the last several years, I got burned out because a lot of what you hear on country radio is not that good.
Merl Haggard, who is one of the great country songwriters and performers of all time, put it well when he said, "I challenge anyone to whistle the melody to a current country song."
But Angel Flight is different. It did what some of the greatest country songs do - it made me cry.
There are a lot of people who question why our soldiers are in harm's way. Soldiers usually leave this discussion to others. They signed up to serve, and they lay their lives on the line. Sometimes they leave them there.
I was in the Army during Vietnam, but the Good Lord kept me out of harms way. Many soldiers today are not as fortunate.
If you haven't watched the video, I encourage you take a moment and watch it. Even if you don't like country music, I think you'll like the message of this song.
Here's the link again.
