The beach in winter

My birthday beach trip was a bust. The weatherman predicted snow and ice at home and we didn't feel comfortable traveling or leaving the critters at home to fend for themselves. So we rescheduled it.

We'll be heading out soon and I'm looking forward to the get-a-way.

When I was a kid, going to the beach in winter would not have occurred to me. The beach in those days meant Coppertone, half-naked females, and buckets of beer. These days, those things aren't as important. In fact, my lovely bride still looks quite fetching in a bathing suit. She'll probably smack me when she reads this, but it's true.

But these days it's more about the solitude, the sound of the surf, and the seafood.

This may come as a shock, but I will take pictures while I'm there. Hopefully, I'll have some keepers that I can share.

If you've never been to the beach in the winter, I suggest you give it a try.

  2. THe shore is always in season. Why would she smack you for saying she still looks good in a bathing suit? I'll never figure women out.

  3. The only time I was at the beach in winter was at Biscayne Beach in Florida. It was windy but not cold. As a matter of fact, I got badly sunburnt in only half an hour at the beach. I still prefer being at the beach in summer. Sitting in the shade with friends at a rented cottage and having a cold beer and eating freshly dug clams cooked in sea water. Yummm.

    The picture looks nice though.

  7. How peaceful. Our turbulent Pacific and strong winds keep many people home, incl. me.

Yesterday our temp. here in S. california was 83F. Today it plummeted to 79F. Need a jacket.

  9. I think winter is the best time at the beach, as summer here is way too hot for me to enjoy the beach. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
