Befuddled

Jilda had a treatment today so I set up shop in the back of the cafeteria. Normally I can work there as easily as I can at my office at home, but my mind kept wandering.
I stuffed headphones into my ears and cranked up the "creative focus" mp3 I have on my laptop for just such an occasion, but it didn't work.
I had the good fortune a few weeks ago to have a number of ideas that I wrote and placed in my Works In Progress folder.
I picked one and about an hour later I had a solid piece for Sunday's column.
I wish I knew why some days my mind is fertile as a bunny rabbit and some days it's as if my mind has been sprayed with Roundup.
If any of you have theories about this, or cures for it, I'm all ears.

  1. If you figure it out, you could probably make a fortune telling others! I have days like that, but they don't seem to have a rhyme or reason for when they come. Shake it off and do something different, I guess!

  2. Maybe it's the "karma" of the hospital cafeteria...wait, I might be referring to the one at my hospital! Ha! Glad you had the idea folder..maybe that's the real key..being prepared with plan B! I bet it's still a great column too! Have a good Thursday!

  3. I have days like that, too, Rick. For me, I think when I am feeling that I have 30 things I should be doing instead of writing I can't get my mind into the "write" form. Othertimes, I have SO many ideas that it is hard to just pick one to focus on. And some days- I am just blank....and blond....lol

  4. I have had the same issue... there are days that the ideas flow like crazy and others that it is like pulling teeth... not sure why. Thankfully the ideas flow a little more regularly than not :)

  7. If you find out it would make a great column. I have those days also.

I once had a computer program for biorhythm. We all have a mental , physical and emotional biorhythm and they go up and down independently. II would put the info about my birth date in and it would find my biorhythm so I could work accordingly. Some days our biorhythm are a all aligned and depending wether it's low or high, we are just either at our peak or at our low. On low days we are prone to mess up and have accidents and just can't think worth a dime.

I wish I could find a program like that again that I could work with.
    Have a great weekend.

  9. If you discover the cause I would certainly like to know. I have spent many hours staring out the window when my brain refuses to fire on all cylinders.

  10. I don't know. I can't think of anything. What? Who's there?

    Love,
