Morning Sky ~ the first day of 2014

I took the dogs for a walk this morning. They'd had a restless night because of the fireworks celebrating New Year's Eve.
Even though the explosions were off in the distance and barely audible to me, the dogs hear them "loud and clear."
This morning after coffee I decided to go for a walk. They were slow to wake but once they saw me reach for my gloves, they were at the back of the house with their noses against the glass, their warm breath fogging the lower panes of garden door.
It was still chilly out. With the sun behind a veil of clouds, it felt even cooler.
The web of tree limbs looked stark against the morning sky.
It was a nice day for a walk.
A little later the clouds moved off to the east and the temps warmed into the 50s.
The first day of 2014 was a beautiful one here in Empire, Alabama.

  1. Oh- To have your weather. We woke up yesterday to a record breaking minus 19 degrees (not counting wind chill bringing the "feel" temp down to minus 32 degrees. Happy New Year, Rick. I hope it is a wonderful one for you and Jilda- xo Diana

  3. I always worry about people's pets when loud fireworks explode. Too many people don't keep their pets safely inside, here in Adelaide the pet shelters picked up 200+ dogs that had run away from the fear on New Year's Night.

  5. You paint a beautiful picture with your words and the photo does it justice. I bet your dogs know the word "walk" like mine do and start barking immediately. Happy New Year to you & Jilda!

  6. My cat was scared to death of the celebratory ridiculous gunfire last night, but she was all better this morning for breakfast and treats. Our animals are so cute! :)

  10. New Year's Eve is very hard on dogs. It was unusually pleasant for me. I wasn't alone.

    Love,
